Voice and video messages that arrive translated, in the listener's own language

With Grandkins, anyone in the family can tap the microphone and speak in their own language, and the message arrives on the other side as text plus a spoken translation in the listener's language. Short video messages work the same way, with captions. A goodnight message in English reaches grandma in Malayalam or Tamil; her reply comes back in English. All 36 languages, any pairing.

Why translated messages matter for families

Live calls need everyone awake at once. Across time zones, from the US to India or Latin America, that's a few narrow windows a week. Messages keep the relationship moving in between: short, warm, in everyone's own words, and understood on arrival with no one interpreting.

How it works

  1. Tap the microphone and speak naturally, in any of the 36 languages, then tap again to send. Or record a short video.
  2. The other person gets it in their language: the words written out, and spoken aloud as a translation. Video messages show captions in their language.
  3. Want to hear the person themselves? Tap "Hear their real voice" to play the original.
  4. They reply in their own language, and it comes back to you translated the same way.

Typed messages and photos work too, and the family room is one group chat that everyone reads in their own language.

Same app for grandparents

Grandparents send and receive messages from the same app as everyone else, and new messages show up as notifications on their phone.

Common questions

Which languages can messages translate between?

English, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Burmese, Khmer, Nepali and Swahili, in any pairing, both ways.

Does the listener get audio or just text?

Both: the message arrives as text in their language and as a spoken translation, and they can also play the original recording.

Do grandparents need an app to send and receive messages?

Yes, the same Grandkins app everyone uses. They join with a 6-letter code: no email, no password.

Is this part of the same plan as the calls?

Yes. Calls and voice and video messages share the plan's translated minutes; a message counts its length. Starter is $9.99 a month or $99 a year with 100 translated minutes a month; Family is $14.99 a month or $149 a year with 200; Family Plus is $19.99 a month or $199 a year with 300. One plan covers the whole family, and every family starts with a free trial: 14 days or 60 translated minutes, whichever comes first.

Try it with your own family

Setup takes a few minutes: add your family, pick each person's language, and send each of them a 6-letter code. Plans start at $9.99 a month for the whole family, and every family starts with a free trial of 14 days or 60 translated minutes.
